The 2023 Northwest American Open Golf Tournament

In an atmosphere brimming with fervor from golf enthusiasts, the 2023 Northwest American Open Golf Tournament unfolded as a monumental success. Orchestrated by the Korean Society of Oregon under the stewardship of PresidentKim Heon-soo and Chairman Eum Ho-young, this event set new benchmarks for Korean American golf tournaments. Against the breathtaking backdrop of the sprawling Reserve Golf Course, the largest in Northwest America, the tournament commenced at noon on the 28th, captivating participants and spectators alike.

A symphony of participation saw 144 golfers across 36 groups converging, supported by the dedication of approximately 20 volunteers from the Korean Society of Oregon. Beyond the spirit of competition, this tournament served as a vital fundraiser for the operations of the Korean Society of Oregon, achieving an unprecedented feat by securing substantial resources for the organization’s upcoming endeavors.

Amongst the highlights of this riveting tournament, Honorary Medalist Lim Jae-hyeon and Grand Champion Thomas Chunsemerged triumphant at the North Course of the Reserve Golf Course. The tournament witnessed distinguished champions, including Alex Na as the General Men’s Champion, Steve Nassar securing the 1st place in Group A, Choi Ok-soon leading Group B, and senior male first place going to Woo Jong-guk. Furthermore, senior female first place was clinched by Go Gu-wol, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship.

Acknowledging the indispensable role of patrons, the Guest Award was graciously presented to esteemed sponsors such as Chairman Lee Je-sun, Chairman Richard Baek, and President Park Jin-yong.

In a seamlessly orchestrated awards ceremony hosted by EumHo-yeong, the chair of the golf tournament operation, and guided by the adept MC Jennifer Gross, President Kim Heon-soo of the Korean Society of Oregon extended warm greetings, praising the participating golfers for enriching the festival with their presence and contributing to the spirit of camaraderie and harmony within the Northwestern American community.

Eum Ho-yeong, the visionary behind the tournament’s operations and progress, shared his gratification, highlighting the enduring enthusiasm from participants year after year. He expressed a commitment to transform the Oregon Korean Association Golf Tournament into an even more jubilant and uniting spectacle.

The post-tournament raffle event, led by Jennifer, brought forth a cascade of excitement. From a round-trip air ticket to Korea courtesy of Delta Air Lines to coveted prizes like TVs, robot vacuum cleaners, Holiday Inn hotel coupons, Costco gift certificates, and dining experiences at Mios City, participants reveled in the thrill of winning.
