Third Health Test of KSO

The Korean Society of Oregon (KSO) elevated the standards of community healthcare by organizing its 3rd health checkup, Covid vaccine, and flu vaccination event on October 14th, 2023 at the Korean Community Center. This event, spearheaded by President Kim Heon-soo and Chairman Eum Ho-young, was a testament to their commitment to the well-being of the Korean community.

Under the insightful guidance of Sydney Taggart, the Vice President of KSO, the event aimed to address the health concerns of Korean community members who faced language barriers and limited resources. Dr. Brian Park, a distinguished family medicine specialist from OHSU, led a team of 10 dedicated medical student interns who volunteered their expertise to provide health consultations on checkups and disease prevention.

The comprehensive health examinations conducted during the event encompassed various aspects, including ophthalmology treatments, individual consultations, blood pressure, pulse measurement, and blood sugar checks. Remarkably, attendees requiring additional ophthalmological treatments were generously provided with free vouchers, ensuring their health needs were met.

In a commendable display of community service, all services and consultations were offered free of charge. Following the seminar, the organizers further demonstrated their hospitality by providing a hot lunch to all 110 attendees, fostering a sense of camaraderie and well-being among the participants.

The event also featured entertainment sessions, expertly organized by the Korean-American Senior Citizens’ Association, under the leadership of Chairman Kyu-hyuk chang. The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter, facilitated by the talented emcee, Amy Seol, during the singing sessions.

The success of this event was not only due to the dedication of KSO’s members but also the active involvement of the community. Youth public relations ambassador led by Kim In-ja, along with youth public relations ambassadors and supportive parents, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

The support extended to the event by the senior citizen association and notable figures like Chairman Chang Kyu-hyuk, board member Hong Jeong-ki, and instructors Patty Lin and Kim Chun-hee from the Cultural Center further underscored the unity and collaborative spirit within the community.

Through this event, the Korean Society of Oregon exemplified the true essence of community care, leaving a lasting impact on the health and well-being of its members.
